We're thrilled to be writing for the first time from Uganda! Chrissy has visited Africa several times over the last few years, but this is Pearce's first time experiencing this beautiful continent. We're incredibly thankful for the opportunity God has given us to serve together as a part of Samaritan's Purse's work in the Pearl of Africa.
We arrived in the capital of Kampala at 4 o'clock this morning after 24 hours of flights, which took us from Charlotte to DC to Istanbul, Turkey and finally to Uganda. Temperatures in the 80s were a welcome change after a cold week of orientation in Boone, NC characterized by snow and ice storms, enough to last us for several months.
After a few hours of sleep, we reported to the SP country office where we met the terrific staff and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Monthly olympic games then ensued, quite a fun way to get to know everyone. This evening we ventured out into the city with a couple of staff, and Pearce managed to find a double cheeseburger with fries and a shake, not so far from home after all. Following dinner we found ourselves at a bowling alley, what a fun first day in Africa!
We'll be taking it easy this weekend, getting the lay of the land and lots of good rest. Next week we'll be training and visiting the projects taking place here in Kampala. From there we'll spend several weeks traveling around the country learning about and taking part in projects spread across several regions. At the conclusion of that tour, we'll be choosing where and on what project we'd like to serve for our remaining months in Uganda.
This adventure is just beginning, and we could not be more excited to learn, grow and serve over the coming months. Uganda is a gorgeous country with beautiful people. We are honored and grateful to be here working with them.
Thank you so very much for your support and prayers as we begin this journey on the other side of the world. We look forward to sharing it with you.
